Kisspeptin-10

Upstream regulator of GnRH release, studied in reproductive endocrinology.

Evidence category: Clinical study. This describes the source category, not approval or certainty.

Regulatory statement in source: Not FDA-approved.

Kisspeptin sits upstream of the reproductive hormone axis and has been studied in real academic trials, more than most research peptides. The linked human work uses kisspeptin-54 as a trigger for egg maturation in IVF: a phase 2 trial in 60 women at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation, and a phase 2 randomised trial in 62 women. A further clinical study looked at its effects on ovarian granulosa cells. The wiki also records brain imaging studies reporting effects on sexual and romantic brain processing in men. It is not approved for any indication.

Benefits reported in the imported source

  • Studied in real academic phase 2 trials, more than most research peptides
  • As an IVF trigger, kisspeptin-54 matured eggs in most women with no moderate or severe hyperstimulation
  • A second dose raised egg yield without more ovarian over-response

Risks and limits

  • The human trials used kisspeptin-54 in IVF, not this form for other purposes
  • Brain imaging findings on sexual processing come from the wiki, not from outcome trials

Source bottom line: Kisspeptin has genuine phase 2 IVF trial data under a related form, but is approved for nothing.

Uncertainty: Reference information only. Not medical advice.

Study protocols — reports, not instructions

60 women at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome during IVF

Reported regimen
a single injection of kisspeptin-54 at 3.2, 6.4, 9.6 or 12.8 nmol/kg to trigger oocyte maturation, with retrieval 36 hours later
Duration
single dose
Reported outcome
Oocyte maturation occurred in 95% of women, oocyte yield was highest at 12.8 nmol/kg, and no woman developed moderate, severe or critical OHSS.

62 women aged 18-34 at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome during IVF

Reported regimen
kisspeptin-54 9.6 nmol/kg subcutaneously 36 hours before retrieval, then a second identical dose or saline 10 hours later
Duration
one or two doses within a single cycle
Reported outcome
71% of women given a second dose reached an oocyte yield of at least 60% against 45% with one dose, without more ovarian over-response or moderate OHSS.

48 women having IVF: 12 given hCG, 12 a GnRH agonist and 24 kisspeptin-54, most with PCOS

Reported regimen
kisspeptin-54 9.6 nmol/kg as the oocyte maturation trigger, as one injection or two given 10 hours apart
Duration
single treatment cycle
Reported outcome
Granulosa lutein cells from kisspeptin-triggered women expressed more steroidogenic genes than after hCG or GnRH agonist; markers of OHSS were unchanged.

Community and practice descriptions

Accounts of a practice are not evidence of safety or effectiveness. Words such as “standard”, “safe” or “recommended” describe the source account, not verified consensus or this wiki’s advice. Commercial and self-published citations are retained for traceability, not vendor endorsement or independent clinical corroboration.

No community description recorded. This entry has no final B-82 outcome record; it is not a researched-empty finding.
