Anastrozole

Aromatase inhibitor, recorded alongside testosterone protocols where oestradiol management is part of the plan.

Evidence category: Regulator / guideline. This describes the source category, not approval or certainty.

Regulatory statement in source: FDA-approved.

Anastrozole is an FDA-approved aromatase inhibitor for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women, used as adjuvant treatment, first-line treatment of advanced disease, and after tamoxifen. It blocks aromatase, the enzyme that makes oestrogen from androgens. The label warns about more ischaemic cardiac events in women with existing heart disease, falls in bone mineral density and rises in total cholesterol. It is contraindicated before menopause and in pregnancy. This is regulator-approved labelling.
