Evidence category: Clinical study. This describes the source category, not approval or certainty.
Regulatory statement in source: Not separately recorded; do not infer approval from the evidence category.
Casein is a slow-digesting milk protein. Randomised crossover trials in small groups of healthy men show that how casein is processed changes how quickly amino acids appear in the blood, with cross-linked sodium caseinate fastest. In older men, casein taken in a milk matrix slowed digestion but did not change muscle protein synthesis afterwards. A trial comparing cow and goat casein found similar stomach emptying, with higher essential amino acids after cow casein. These are small mechanistic trials, not strength or body-composition studies.
Benefits reported in the imported source
- Small crossover trials in healthy men show how processing changes the speed amino acids reach the blood
- Cow casein raised essential amino acids more than goat casein, at the same stomach emptying rate
Risks and limits
- In older men a milk matrix slowed digestion without changing muscle protein synthesis
- These are small mechanistic trials; nothing here measures strength or body composition
Source bottom line: Casein research here shows how fast its amino acids arrive, not whether it builds strength.
Uncertainty: Reference information only. Not medical advice.
Study protocols — reports, not instructions
15 healthy young men (mean age 26)
- Reported regimen
- 40 g of micellar casein, calcium caseinate or cross-linked sodium caseinate dissolved in water, in a randomised crossover with about a week between trials
- Duration
- single dose per session, blood sampled over the postprandial period
- Reported outcome
- Cross-linked sodium caseinate raised plasma amino acids fastest, higher than the other two forms from 15 to 90 minutes after ingestion.

32 healthy older men (mean age 71)
- Reported regimen
- 25 g labelled micellar casein dissolved in bovine milk serum or in water, with a tracer infusion
- Duration
- single dose, measured over 300 minutes
- Reported outcome
- The milk matrix slowed digestion and absorption but did not change myofibrillar protein synthesis rates at 0-120 or 120-300 minutes.

18 healthy men (mean age 26)
- Reported regimen
- 300 mL of a drink with 30 g of protein from cow or goat milk casein concentrate, in a randomised crossover
- Duration
- single dose per occasion
- Reported outcome
- Gastric emptying half-time was the same (80 min goat, 85 min cow), while serum essential amino acids were higher over time after cow casein.

Unverified imported account — Why Casein Is One of The Best Proteins You Can Take - Healthline
An imported authored paraphrase, not a quotation or a recommended protocol.
Review: unverified historical account. The imported wording is preserved for attribution; its full clinical, dosing, efficacy or consensus claims have not been independently established. Unvalidated source account; no validated human dosing population or animal-to-human equivalence is inferred.
Imported wording: A nutrition guide says most people supplementing with casein use it before bed, describing 1-2 scoops (25-50 g) mixed with water as an example.

Rechecked the previously published description against live source content. The live guide explicitly says most casein users consume it before bed and gives the water-mixed powder example. No efficacy statement is repeated.
